David Schofield

Associate Director, Hydro Consultancy

David joined Hydro Consultancy in January 2012.  Prior to joining Hydro International’s new consultancy business, he had worked for Arup since 1997 where he was a noted water expert with extensive experience of flood risk management, sustainable drainage and sewerage design.

David has 27 years of infrastructure and water engineering experience, including extensive work on masterplanning, analysing, designing and constructing sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) using contemporary best management practices.  With 17 years of consultancy experience, he also has ten years of working in local government civil engineering and drainage departments.

David has gained substantial overseas experience, including Europe, China, the Far East and Australia.  During March 2006, he represented Arup on a two week British Water led DTI Technical Mission to the USA, to evaluate contemporary sustainable drainage on the eastern and western seaboards.  Formal industry feedback included a seminar and report, the latter of which is still available on DEFRA’s website.   This was followed up with a support role on a UK water companies USA sustainable drainage visit to Portland and Seattle during November 2011.

He is has long been a leading member of the British Water Sustainable Drainage Focus Group and also regularly presents on this subject at seminars and conferences. In September 2009 he was an invited panel expert for a New Civil Engineer and Hydro International Flood & Water Management Bill Round Table event.  David has been a guest blogger on Engineering Nature’s Way since its launch in 2011.
